U.S. Senator Dick Durbin today announced $350,000 in funding awards to the Calumet-Sag Trail through the 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act. The dollars will pay to construct the trail heads, wayfinding signs and amenities that will be designed through the Calumet-Sag Trail wayfinding and amenities master plan, also funded through a Durbin-secured grant.
It’s the Friends’ partnerships with the League of Illinois Bicyclists and Active Transportation Alliance, who work closely with Durbin’s office, that have proven so valuable to this trail. Their hard work also secured dollars for the Burnham Greenway’s completion, a feasibility study for a trail along the Rock Island Metra, and the Veterans Memorial/I-355 trail.
We salute Senator Durbin, LIB and Active Trans. And we invite you to join the growing movement that is building this trail.
